While some predicted 2010 “The Year of the Acquisition” in HR Technology, the truth was, it was just a preview of vendor activity in 2011. From the assessments and applicant tracking to learning and talent management – the activity this year has crossed all hr tech product and customer segments.
Fall is host to the human resource technology industry’s largest event and the weeks before are filled with rumor, debate & hunches on who will be announcing mergers, what products are getting acquired as well as the rebrands/renaming and new products getting launched off of prior year purchases.
But the announcements are typically held for that event, or close to it. Could the announcement today by long established Hodes iQ being purchased by Technomedia be a sign that this fall will be SO busy that vendors want to make sure they don’t get lost in the mix? For Hodes iQ & Technomedia, this seems like an ideal move. The product is experienced, solid and scalable, but has often remained in the background of the big names out there. The team at Technomedia is well established outside of the US, specifically in non-recruiting areas – A highlight of Hodes.
Together, the combined reach of both their established client bases as well as their technology could create a global solution. However, with so many companies poised to play in this global space, they will have to start generating a little more noise to gain major market share.
The real question: What impact does another recruiting system (applicant tracking software) merging into a talent management product really mean for buyers in 2012?
